Director of Engineering

Kepler is changing the face of satellite communications by launching a constellation of telecommunication nanosatellites! With the recent success of our Series A funding, a handful of early customers, and our first two satellites in orbit, Kepler is currently doubling in size!

As the Director of Engineering at Kepler, you will hold responsibility for delivering large-scale, multidisciplinary engineering projects. These will range from the mass production of our satellites to the ground user equipment and satellite network operations. In this role, you will report directly to our CEO and be held accountable for the success of the cross-functional engineering team, including team structure and staffing, engineering practices and quality, and delivery against our technology roadmap. You will help shape our long-term engineering vision and strategy, working closely with Kepler executives to understand the future of our business. You will also be responsible for mentoring and developing engineering leaders throughout the organization.


  • Managing to plan, budget, and to timeline of large-scale engineering projects
  • Managing scope and feature requests - best practices for defining MVPs and planning future product/solution updates
  • Establish and monitor/continuous improvements on KPIs and OKRs for cross functional/multi-disciplinary engineering team
  • Accountable for the execution of the company's strategic plans and processes for the engineering team, and achieving desired results
  • Manage third party vendors and supply chain
  • Team performance management and supporting recruitment of additional hires
  • Preparing and managing communication flows among team members
  • Support development of future engineering direction
  • Support product management activities
  • Support customer success and key customer accounts
  • Coordinate activities with different leaders of the multi-disciplinary engineering team
  • Support the development of additional functional groups as business needs require
  • Position Requirements

  • Experience leading a team of at least 20 engineering staff
  • Experience with best practices for determining achievable/reasonable project plans and timelines
  • Experience in load-balancing projects and resources
  • Proactive, driven, entrepreneurial and action-oriented individual who can accomplish goals
  • Act as a cornerstone for delivery, team management, culture and product quality for technology
  • Additional / Bonus

  • Best practices on testing, QA
  • Experience leading the deployment/build-out of a new manufacturing or assembly line.
  • Customer Success experience
  • Minimum Experience and Education

  • 8+ years’ experience in engineering role
  • 3+ years’ experience managing engineering team
  • Prior experience scaling engineering teams
  • Prior startup experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant engineering field (e.g. Hardware, Software, RF)
